Kinya Harte joins Morehead-Cain as director of communications, marketing
The Morehead-Cain Foundation has announced that Kinya Harte will join the staff as its director of communications and marketing this April.
A nonprofit communications professional with more than a decade of experience, Harte serves as director of communications and marketing for the Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF), a national cancer research nonprofit based in New York City. She first joined LRF in 2011 as a public affairs coordinator, serving in numerous communications-related positions before assuming the directorship in 2019.
Harte said she was drawn to Morehead-Cain for its mission to identify and cultivate the next generation of promising young leaders.
“The Foundation, and the team therein, is compassionate and innovative, and provides its scholars with a unique experience and the space to be entrepreneurial,” said Harte, who received her bachelor’s degree in English from the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York. “Those reasons alone would make anyone honored to be a team member.”
Harte holds a master’s degree in journalism and mass communications with a concentration in public relations from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. She has previously worked with the Bowery Residents’ Committee (BRC), League of Voluntary Hospitals and Homes of New York, and Yahoo!. For six years, Harte managed EXUDE Magazine, a website and online publication she co-founded in 2006.
In her role at Morehead-Cain, Harte said she looks forward to “reimagining the post-secondary education experience” and seeking to expand the Program’s reach and impact through storytelling, brand awareness efforts, and engaging Morehead-Cain’s communities.
“This is an exciting time and an excellent opportunity to build on the Foundation’s legacy; I look forward to ushering in this new era together,” the incoming director said.
Harte is a member of the Forbes Communications Council, the Urban League of Essex County Young Professionals, and the BRC Leadership Council. She plans to move from Bloomfield, New Jersey, to the Chapel Hill area this spring.
In fall 2021, Morehead-Cain also welcomed Tim Cheney to the team as the director of recruitment and selection. Cheney previously was director of college counseling for two co-educational boarding and day schools in Massachusetts, most recently Tabor Academy in Marion.
