Summer Enrichment Program
Fifty Years of Impactful Summers
In 1974, the Morehead Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) was established. Ten entering first-year scholars participated in Outward Bound, ten rising second-year scholars were sent to public safety departments across the country, and others participated in the Presidential Classroom for Young Americans in Washington, D.C., and the Center for Study of Human Values in Tanglewood, North Carolina. Today, the SEP is the centerpiece of the Morehead-Cain experience, offering four diverse summers for scholars.
From researching the United Kingdom’s structural approaches to maternal health, to helping to drive strategic philanthropy in Pikes Peak, Colorado, scholars embarked on amazing experiential learning journeys in summer 2023—marking the program’s fiftieth summer of impact.
Collaboration with University Faculty
Revamped in 2018, the Global Perspective summer offers scholars nearly endless opportunities for global learning and research. Scholars are encouraged to design a summer that suits their personal interests, academic paths, and career goals. In summer 2023, many scholars collaborated with UNC–Chapel Hill faculty to combine their summer experience with an independent or thesis research project.
