Senior Class of 2022

Grant earned a BS in business administration with distinction, with a music minor in the jazz studies program while playing piano for the UNC Jazz Combos and Charanga Carolina. While at UNC, Grant served as the captain of the club lacrosse team and coached for the Chatham Cardinal Lacrosse Program. He started the Movember Basketball Tournament to raise funds and awareness for men’s health and served as his fraternity’s philanthropy chair and treasurer. Grant attended culinary school in Scotland at the Edinburgh New Town Cookery School to wrap up his college experience.

Chiazo earned a BS with highest distinction in computer science, alongside minors in music and Hispanic studies. During her time at Carolina, she developed an original full-stack course for CS + Social Good, serving as education lead and overseeing over forty students. Chiazo was a lead teaching assistant for COMP 110, where she ran mentorship initiatives and built a website documenting team best practices. During her senior year, she served as president of the Carolina Ukulele Ensemble, the world’s first collegiate ukulele ensemble. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, is a Google Grace Hopper Scholar, and was selected to join hackNY, a selective NYC fellowship connecting CS majors across the world to startups, two summers in a row, as a fellow and mentor. To end her time at Carolina, Chiazo joined a Critical Ethnic Studies undergraduate group and became belay-certified!

Christina earned a BS with distinction in computer science with a minor in mathematics. At Carolina, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega (AXO) and worked five semesters as a learning assistant for COMP 411: Computer Organization, and COMP 541: Digital Logic. As a part of a UNC club called Fitness Breaks, Christina also taught free, 15–30-minute fitness classes to minimum-wage janitorial employees on their breaks. She is passionate about the environment and, aside from serving one year as sustainability chair for AXO, she interned for an Australian renewable energy startup called OpenSolar and spent her last semester conducting research about the United States’ renewable energy policy. After a summer internship with Capital One prior to her senior year, Christina has accepted a return offer as a software engineering associate in Capital One’s San Francisco office.

A. K. earned a BA with highest distinction in economics and political science, with a minor in business administration. During her time at Carolina, she aimed to combine business pursuits with social impact through involvement in clubs such as 180 Degrees Consulting and part-time educational consulting work. She was also involved in the leadership of her sorority, serving as the director of finance for over a year. Academically, A. K. was the teacher’s assistant for a consulting course in the business school and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. A. K. also pursued personal research interests through the Morehead-Cain Lovelace Fund, as she and a fellow scholar traveled to South America to execute a research project on how various art forms drive Latin American feminist movements.

Vibhu earned a BS in computer science with a minor in business administration and (almost) a minor in religious studies. He was an active member of the club tennis team and served as the social chair for two years. He also spent time volunteering at the Refugee Community Partnership, where he helped with tutoring and daily activities. In his last year at UNC, he began pursuing an interest in religious studies and Buddhist studies with the UNC RELI department. Along with smaller side projects contributing to the pedagogy of Buddhist studies, he assisted in creating a new course in the religion department: Meditation, Mindfulness, and Modernity.

Olivia earned a BSBA with highest distinction in business administration, with minors in history and media and journalism/advertising and public relations. During her time at Chapel Hill, she served as co-president of Carolina Creates, chair of the Student Undergraduate Teaching and Staff Awards, and member of the Student Government Community Service Committee. She also worked in sports broadcasting for the ACC Network, helping with ESPN College Gameday for the UNC v. Duke game. In her free time, Olivia volunteered as a soccer coach for Triangle Area Girls Soccer and as a dance teacher for the Carolina Dance Project.

Shivam earned a BS with distinction and highest honors in neuroscience with minors in social & economic justice and education. Academically, he conducted autism research at Stein Lab and mental health research at the UNC Institute for Trauma Recovery and served as associate editor for IMPULSE International Neuroscience Journal. Shiv was the founder and president of the Bioethics Society of UNC and an Ethics Fellow at the Parr Center for Ethics. Passionate about social justice, he served as director of development on the Campus Y Executive Board, advocacy lead for Partners in Health, director of UNC Holi Moli, director of Campus Engagement for the Asian American Center, and Diversity and Inclusion Chair for Alpha Phi Omega. Shivam is in the first cohort inducted into Nu Rho Psi Honor Society in Neuroscience and is the recipient of the Donald T. Lysle Chancellor’s Award.

Daniel earned a BSBA with highest distinction in business administration with a second major in global studies. At Carolina, he worked on the business development team of UNCUT, a student-run nonprofit focused on sharing the lives of student-athletes. He also chaired committees at multiple Model UN conferences through the Carolina International Relations Association and was a member of the Brazilian-American Student Association. He spent his senior spring studying abroad in Seoul, South Korea. Academically, Daniel conducted research on US-China digital trade policy and received a grant from the Office of Undergraduate Research to explore urban planning policies in Barcelona. Daniel was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and received the Hayden B. Renwick Academic Achievement Award. During his time at Carolina, Daniel participated in Que Rico, UNC’s Latin dance team and performed salsa and bachata throughout the Triangle.

Tershona earned a BS with honors in neuroscience, while double majoring in biology and minoring in Spanish for the health professions. She volunteered as a peer mentor and undergraduate learning assistant in various biology and neuroscience courses. Tershona spent two years volunteering as an undergraduate research assistant in the Peer Relations Lab before spending her senior year in two labs: the Cognitive and Addiction Behavioral Lab and the Bautch Lab. She wrote her senior honors thesis on the effects of sociodemographic identity on the relationship between adolescent and current alcohol misuse. She also wrote a paper exploring newly developed transgenic mice models accuracy in detecting cell cycle stages within mice retinal endothelial cells. During her time at Carolina, she participated in the boxing club, intramural sports teams, and jiu jitsu.

Kristina earned a BA in management and society with honors, with minors in entrepreneurship and urban studies and planning. In Chapel Hill, you could find Kristina hanging around the North Carolina Study Center as she helped shape the Wilberforce Leadership Program or frequenting a coffee shop with some of her Younglife College women. Academically, as a true interdisciplinary, Kristina packed her schedule full of courses that engaged both her left and right brain and was inducted to Phi Beta Kappa. With an adoration of social entrepreneurship, Kristina was shipped off to London with the Shuford Away program before receiving the eject button from Britain on March 13, 2020. From attending Courage Over Comfort conversations to implementing grassroots community engagement strategies such as hosting outdoor Pancake Nights, the COVID crisis challenged Kristina to bring intention in creatively caring for her peers.

Caroline earned a BS in behavioral data (Interdisciplinary Studies), with a minor in business administration. While at Carolina, she served as the co-founder of the Female Quotient and Conference Experience Chair at TEDxUNC. Caroline also conducted research at the Center for Advanced Hindsight, worked as a behavioral science lead at SnapHabit, and was a database intern at the Motley Fool. Outside of academics, Caroline sold coffee in Yosemite National Park and bagged many bagels at Brandwein’s Bagels in Chapel Hill.

Katherine earned a BA with highest distinction in psychology with a minor in religious studies. At Carolina, she was heavily involved in behavioral health research in the Department of Psychology and Gillings School of Global Public Health. She also enjoyed participating in UNC STEM education as a peer mentor for General Chemistry II and a learning assistant for Anatomy and Physiology. Katherine was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and graduated from Honors Carolina. Outside of the lab and classroom, Katherine volunteered with Wonder Connection at UNC Children’s Hospital, UNC Health’s COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic, and the local chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In her final semester, she earned her personal training certification and coached fitness classes at a local studio.

Chelsea earned a BA with highest distinction in English with a concentration in science, medicine, and literature and a minor in chemistry. At Carolina, she was founding president of the N.C. Beta chapter of Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity, president of UNC Best Buddies for two consecutive years, director of academic affairs for Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and programming chair for Chabad. Chelsea also developed and taught an original C-START course titled, “Representations of Illness in Film,” served as a peer mentor for students in Organic Chemistry II, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Outside of campus, she worked as a medical scribe at UNC Dermatology and conducted published research with Novosys Health and the UNC Cardiology SUDDEN Project. Chelsea additionally worked as an autism caregiver and volunteered as a service leader for Jewish residents at Atria Senior Living.

Olivia earned a BS with distinction in psychology, with minors in chemistry and Spanish translation and interpretation. In her first semester, she began volunteering at the UNC Hospital Child/ Adolescent Psychiatric Ward, which fueled her interest in mental health care. She additionally joined the Student Government Mental Health Committee, where she collaborated on projects related to peer support and improving mental health for students identifying as neurodivergent. Through her role as director and group facilitator of the UNC-CH Wellness Network, she trained peers to be facilitators for weekly peer support groups. In her final two years at UNC, she worked for the Brain and Early Experience Lab, investigating early child development. To combine her interest in medicine/mental health with her creative side, she served as an editor for the UNC Health Humanities Journal throughout her time at Carolina.

Ivana earned a BA with highest distinction and highest honors in English, with a concentration in creative nonfiction writing. At Carolina, she held a multitude of positions in the English department, including being an undergraduate learning assistant, research assistant, and intern at a local school in Durham. She completed an honors thesis in her department as a junior, becoming the first in the history of the department to do so. Professionally, she spent her junior and senior years working with Southern Futures and NetApp, acting as a communications consultant and content migration specialist, respectively. She rounded out her time at Carolina by becoming a caretaker for her mother and helping her navigate the medical arena.

Connor earned a BS with distinction in geological science, with a concentration in earth sciences and a minor in mathematics. At Carolina, he was drawn to the international aspect of research, shadowing hydrologic investigations at Reykjavik University in Iceland and at the University of Zagreb in Croatia. After volunteering at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory and at a special-needs school in Masiphumelele, South Africa, he worked with the Puerto Rican media branch of the EPA to investigate dredging efforts in San Juan. He also conducted independent research in the Paleoclimatology and Climate Change lab and volunteered with Wildlife Information and Science Education (WISE) to promote ecology at UNC. Throughout his time at Carolina, he advocated for disability awareness and promoted Hispanic representation in media through his own Rotten Tomatoes-affiliated film website.

At Carolina, Michael earned a BA in environmental studies and a BA in political science with a minor in food studies. Michael has worked with the Edible Campus Initiative, a branch of the North Carolina Botanical Garden that seeks to harness the agricultural potential of campus and address food insecurity amongst students, serving as the organization’s student engagement intern and president over the last three years. Michael served as the co-chair of UNC Green Labs, a campus organization seeking to promote sustainability in Carolina’s research labs. He was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and received the Amy Preble Scholarship from the Carolina Recycling Association for his accomplishments in addressing waste reduction issues in the Carolinas. He has also performed improv comedy with the Chapel Hill Players (CHiPs), UNC’s premier improv and sketch comedy troupe, serving as president in his final semester.

Capri earned a BS in business administration with a double major in public policy and a minor in Spanish for the business professions. She spent her time at Carolina as the co-president of the Community, Equity, and Inclusion (CEI) Board at Kenan-Flagler Business School, on the executive team for 180 Degrees Consulting and the Undergraduate Consulting Club, and as co-chair for Carolina Advocates for Gender Equity. During her junior and senior years, she was a research assistant for the Harvard GenderSci Lab where she co-authored a paper on gender equity in leadership. Capri was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Delta Pi, the Spanish Honor Society. At Carolina, she most enjoyed watching UNC sports and exploring Chapel Hill and Carrboro restaurants with friends.

Monty earned a BS with highest distinction in computer science, with minors in neuroscience and mathematics. Monty worked in Professor Colin Raffel’s lab designing techniques for collaborative deep learning, moonlighted in the CLICK Education lab trying to fix the nursing shortage by lowering failure rates in introductory biology classes, and spent three years attempting improv comedy with the Chapel Hill Players. He also spent a semester researching Zermelo-Fraenkel set theory with Professor Idris Assani, though neither is completely sure what they accomplished beyond hard thinking and tea drinking. By his own estimation he asked 50 percent of all questions in the classes he attended: herein lies his apology to professor and student alike, who suffered under his overly-raised hand. During his time at Carolina he got better at reading, worse at cooking, and learnt how to remember things.

Grant studied economics and design with minors in statistics and analytics and business administration. His interests in mechanism design, data science, and the environment drove many of his endeavors throughout his time at Carolina, including founding the school’s first hydrogen fuel cell-powered hydroponics lab. Grant served as a board member for the South Africa Education Project-US, where he led web development during his stop-out year. This year, he represented UNC at the Econ Games, RadicalXChange, and ETHDenver. He also cofounded the food waste startup Veera, interned with mechanism design DAO Clr.fund, and worked on special projects for micromobility startup Zoomo. Grant is most proud of the community he’s built at UNC and has constantly found himself grateful for the treasures he’s had the pleasure of sharing the last four years with.

Sammy earned a BA with distinction in journalism with a minor in entrepreneurship. She was involved in multiple publications on campus such as Coulture and Vintage Blue. This year, her feature writing was published by Indy Weekly and WRAL. She worked as a marketing intern at a sustainable fashion start up in Raleigh called Reborn where she was published weekly on their website and social media. Before the spring of her junior year, she moved to Oahu, Hawaii, where she did remote classes and worked as a deckhand and snorkel guide at Oahu Catamarans for seven months. During the summer in Hawaii, she was a photography intern and produced a photo show of 29 images titled “The People Make the Place.”

Phoebe earned a BA with highest distinction and highest honors in public policy, and a BA with highest distinction in her interdisciplinary studies major: colonial and decolonial studies. At Carolina, Phoebe was an advocate and a member of the leadership team at the Community Empowerment Fund, counsel member for the Attorney General’s staff, and a Buckley Public Service Scholar. She also acted as a program assistant for the Montreal Indigenous Community NETWORK. Academically, Phoebe conducted research on colonial land theft from Indigenous peoples in Canada, studied post-genocide restoration and peacebuilding in Kigali, Rwanda, and took graduate-level coursework on transnational political activism and race, before being inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. To wrap up her time at Carolina, Phoebe was hired as a disc jockey at the WXYC Chapel Hill radio station.

Melanie earned a BA with highest distinction and highest honors in public policy and a BA with highest distinction in political science. At Carolina, Melanie served as co-president and director of Outreach for Mi Pueblo, the largest Latinx organization on campus. She created the Amigx mentorship program and the Latinx Leadership Alliance within the Carolina Latinx Center. She volunteered as an advocate and Latinx Committee coordinator with the Community Empowerment Fund. Academically, Melanie conducted research on educational inequities as an inaugural John M. Belk Impact Fellow and for her senior honors thesis on the underrepresentation of Latinx students in North Carolina’s gifted education program. She received an award for Best Thesis in her department. Additionally, Melanie served as a student director for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship Fund Board, was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Golden Fleece, and was named a North Carolina 20 under 20 Latinx Listmaker.

Scott earned a BS with highest distinction in mathematics with highest honors and a BA in computer science. He has spent the past two and a half years doing math research in Ergodic theory under Dr. Idris Assani. During that time, he coauthored a paper that was published in Colloquium Mathematicum. He received the Alfred T. Brauer prize, given to the undergraduate who is judged by the Mathematics Department to have shown the greatest promise in the fields of algebra or number theory. Above all, Scott loves to teach math. As a lead instructor of Chapel Hill Math Circle, he teaches middle school students about math outside of a standard curriculum. Scott also enjoys music and cooking, recording original songs as a guitarist in the band “South of the Soul,” and working as a line cook at Hawthorne and Wood.

Abbas earned a BA with highest distinction in American studies, with an additional BA in political science. At Carolina, Abbas wrote for both the Daily Tar Heel and the Carolina Political Review as an editorial board member. Outside of writing, he was involved at the Community Empowerment Fund in Chapel Hill as an advocate and the community outreach coordinator. Academically, he conducted research with the Southern Oral History Program as an undergraduate intern and in the American studies department for his senior honors thesis. Outside of UNC, Abbas interned at AsylumConnect, the first tech nonprofit dedicated to supporting LGBT+ asylum seekers in the United States. He was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa in his junior year and was an Honors Carolina Laureate.

Takhona earned a BS in public health with a major in health policy and management. At Carolina, she was mainly involved in local and global research projects. She worked as a student researcher at the Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases, where she supported UNC-affiliated studies in the UK, Belgium, and China. She also interned at the Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy, where she researched cost-ineffective care. Relatedly, she wrote her senior honors thesis on using decision-analytic modeling to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of cardiac pacemakers in patients with heart failure. Additionally, she served as the co-chair for the 43rd Minority Health Conference. Takhona also had a brief career as a short-story writer—one of her short stories won third place in a campus-wide short story writing competition and was published in the short-story vending machines located across UNC.

Olivia earned a BSPH with highest distinction and honors in health policy and management. At Carolina, she directed the Get Covered Carolina program of Student Health Action Coalition, coordinated community engagement at Community Empowerment Fund, and volunteered as a certified application counselor. They also facilitated support groups for survivors of sexual violence, fostered rescue dogs, and crafted with community groups. On her gap year, Olivia supported the formation of a health practice at a small consulting firm created by Secretary Madeleine Albright. They supported pregnant and birthing people as a full-spectrum birth worker through Emerald Doulas, LLC, and UNC Hospitals. Academically, she conducted independent research in the Health Policy and Management Department on prescription contraceptive access. On campus and abroad, Olivia enjoyed mountain biking, kayaking, and backpacking.

Ben earned a BS in computer science with a second major of English, for which he wrote a senior honors thesis. The thesis, a collection of original poems, helped earn him the Robert B. House Memorial Prize in Poetry, the Chancellor’s award presented to a graduating senior who has done distinguished work in poetry. He was a member of the swim club all four years and served as the club’s co-president for one year. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping to organize a failure forum to destigmatize conversation about failure in high-achieving communities. On that note, one of his proudest failures is the months-long job search in 2020 that led nowhere and prevented him from taking a gap year.

Claire earned a BA with distinction in studio art with a minor in education. She was on the founding team of Chapel Thrill Escapes, the first student-designed, -built, and -operated nonprofit escape room in the country. Since her freshman year, she was involved with Art for Humanity, formerly known as Mixed Concrete, a student-run art auction benefiting Habitat for Humanity Orange County. As president of the group, she focused on raising funds and awareness for inadequate housing and support for student and local artists. Claire has tutored elementary and middle school students over Zoom for the past two years. Before coming to UNC, she took a gap year, during which she studied fine arts at the Aegean Center for Fine Arts in Paros, Greece. She also received her yoga certification with a specialization in children’s yoga.

Anna earned a BSPH in health policy and management with a minor in chemistry. She supported the American Mock World Health Organization, worked for the American College Health Organization, and volunteered with the Student Health Action Coalition (SHAC) Free Clinic and on-campus COVID testing. In a year away from college, she worked as a UNICEF vaccine consultant, interned for the United Nations Refugee Agency in Switzerland, and interned for a reproductive health NGO in Laos. At Carolina, Anna supported research on vaccination disruption during the start of COVID-19, HPV vaccine equity and cost-effectiveness, as well as cancer. She was a dancer in the Blank Canvas Dance Company and enjoyed rock climbing. Most of all, Anna loved her time as a volunteer pod leader and advocate at the Community Empowerment Fund. Her favorite memories at Carolina involved biking around Carrboro and sharing meals with friends.

Jalen earned a BA with distinction in geography and political science, with a minor in geographic information science. He was a member of the UNC Residence Hall Association, Carolina Urbanist, and the UNC men’s club volleyball team. Jalen enjoyed utilizing his academic studies to engage in research on public park accessibility, renewable energy, and public transit. At Carolina, he helped create the Geography Undergraduate Advisory Committee (GUAC) to foster community amidst the pandemic among his peers and improve the undergraduate experience within the geography department.

Robert earned a BA in comparative literature with interests in aesthetics, film theory, and critical theory. He completed a thesis concerning the German psychoaesthetic concept, “Einfühlung,” which was awarded highest honors. He also worked as disc jockey for WXYC and wrote articles on arts and culture for the Daily Tar Heel. During his senior year, he worked as a line cook at Vin Rouge Restaurant in Durham. In his free time, Robert explored the area around Chapel Hill on his bicycle.

Camryn earned a BS with highest distinction in biology with honors, with minors in neuroscience and chemistry. At Carolina, he founded the Airway Information & Resource Club and worked to educate others on lung health by hosting classes at Splash UNC, Splash MIT, Spark MIT, and MIT HSSP. He conducted asthma-related research at the National Institutes of Health under Dr. Keith Hoots ’75 and at the Marsico Lung Institute under Dr. Stephen Tilley, culminating in his biology honors thesis. Camryn presented posters for the N.C. Undergraduate Research & Creativity Symposium 2020 and European Respiratory Society Congress 2020 based on his abstract published in the ERS Journal 2020. He was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and Tri-Alpha and served as a Buckley Public Service Scholar. As a senior, Camryn founded Ollie’s Great Bakery, which he aims to grow post-graduation.

Hana earned a BA with honors and distinction in history, with a double major in political science. At Carolina, she was a founding member of the UNC Pakistan Society, served as the co-president of Students for Justice in Palestine, and was a staff contributor at the Carolina Political Review, a non-partisan publication within the UNC Institute of Politics. She also served on the History Department’s Undergraduate Studies Committee where she deliberated courses as an undergraduate representative alongside faculty members. Hana was selected for the Phillips Ambassadors Program, based on her academic record and commitment to service and leadership, which enabled her to study abroad at Korea University in Seoul, South Korea. During her senior year, she wrote an honors thesis in the history department on Black-American and Palestinian solidarity in the 20th century. Throughout her time at UNC, Hana was also a part of the Lookout Scholars Program, the Tri-Alpha honor society, and the Pi Sigma Alpha honor society.

Izzy earned a BS in nursing with highest distinction. During her time at Carolina, she served on the Student Health Action Coalition (SHAC) Executive Board as a School of Nursing co-representative and volunteered in the lab at Wednesday-night clinics. Izzy worked on the Community Outreach Committee for the Association of Nursing Students and volunteered as a peer mentor through the Undergraduate Student Governance Council. She also participated in a pilot program between the School of Nursing and UNC Hospitals, in which students served as volunteer nursing assistants on units struggling with staffing shortages. A highlight of her time at Carolina was having the opportunity to administer COVID-19 vaccines to the local community.

Tracy earned a BSBA with distinction in business administration, with minors in sustainability studies and conflict management. She served in a variety of positions on campus, including underclassmen mentor for the Allison Mentorship Program, sitting member of the Undergraduate Honor Court, student consultant for the Center for Sustainable Enterprise, Academic Excellence Head of Kappa Delta Sorority, member of Honors Carolina, and several local service positions as part of the Buckley Public Service Scholars Program. Her favorite commitment was as president of the Undergraduate Consulting Club, which enabled her to interact with dozens of consulting firms and even more classmates and faculty. Some of her favorite memories at Carolina include supporting Final Selection Weekend and giving tours of campus to potential scholars.

Harrison earned a BS with highest distinction in statistics and analytics, with a minor in business administration. At Carolina, he was the co-president of the 180 Degrees Consulting Club, a practice player on the Women’s Varsity Basketball team, and a member of the honor court. Academically, he worked as a teaching assistant and taught a UNC class called “The Mathematics of Probability Games.” An avid pickleball player, Harrison was also the co-founder and co-president of club pickleball at UNC.

Khaki Loughran earned a BA with highest distinction in business administration and English and comparative literature. At Carolina, she enthusiastically served as president of Be the Match On Campus, the University’s chapter of the national bone marrow registry. She was also involved in the community as a campaign intern for Josh Stein for Attorney General, as well as a regular tutor for elementary through high school students. One of Khaki’s favorite experiences during her time at Carolina was the trip she took through the Lovelace Fund for Discovery to study how artistic expression drives feminist movements in Argentina and Chile. She is beyond grateful for the friendships and classes Carolina brought her and will forever cherish her time in Chapel Hill.

Michael earned a BS with highest distinction in biochemistry, with a minor in business administration. At the UNC Department of Pharmacoengineering, Michael researched engineered stem cell therapies for cancer. He presented his work at a national research conference, earned a Carolina Research Scholar designation, and completed an honors thesis. Additionally, Michael pursued entrepreneurial activities, such as participating in the Launch Chapel Hill business accelerator and growing the Kenan-Flagler Healthcare Club. He also wrote award-winning blog articles communicating the latest developments in cancer research to the public in an engaging and accessible manner.

Alex earned a BSBA with highest distinction in business administration and a BA with highest distinction in sport administration. At Carolina, he co-founded the multimedia 501(c)(3) nonprofit UNCUT, co-founded the Carolina Sport Administration Club, led the organizing committee for the Carolina Sports & Entertainment Summit, and served as president of the board of directors for the Daily Tar Heel. Outside the classroom, he conducted academic research on Formula One Racing, studied intrapreneurship in Seattle, competed in a case competition at Corvinus University in Budapest, developed startups through the Launch Chapel Hill incubator program, and completed internships at Greenfly, Prophet, Sports & Properties, Wasserman, and Zoomo. Alex was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and was a Robert E. Bryan Fellowship Award recipient. During his time at UNC, Alex also discovered a passion for running and ran his first marathon in Carrboro.

Isabelle earned a BA in economics and American history with a minor in business administration. On campus, she served as a vice president for Kappa Delta Sorority, in charge of chapter membership and engagement. Additionally, Isabelle was on the student production staff of GoHeels Productions, filming and broadcasting UNC athletic events. In this role, she worked in camera operations, graphics, replay, and editing for the ACC Network and GoHeels.com. During her time at Carolina, she also worked remotely as a brand marketing intern for Carpe, a sweat solutions company based in Raleigh. After graduation, Isabelle is moving to New York City to pursue a career in sports marketing at an experiential advertising agency.

Bobby earned a BSBA in business administration with a minor in history. At Carolina, Bobby was a founding member and treasurer of the UNC club pickleball team, financials sector head for the Ewing-Schleeter Harris Fund through the UNC Finance Society, and member of the Undergraduate Honor Court. He received an academic medal of honor in entrepreneurship for excellence in BUSI 500 for outstanding achievement in both start-up creation and product sales, while also garnering extreme interest in real estate and finance at Kenan-Flagler. During his time at Carolina, he worked closely with various Chapel Hill philanthropies through Alpha Sigma of Chi Psi.

Jaya earned a BA with distinction in global studies with a concentration in global health and minored in neuroscience and Hindi-Urdu. At UNC, she served as co-chair of the Mahatma Gandhi Fellowship through UNC Sangam, assistant director of FEMMES (girls in STEM), and president of Kappa Delta Sorority. As president, she earned the Corre Stegall Leadership Award for her initiatives to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion within the UNC chapter and at the national level. After spending three years working on women’s global health research, she completed a thesis with highest honors on a comparison of multipurpose prevention reproductive technologies. She is passionate about girls’ education advocacy and women’s empowerment. Her love for basketball and sports were deeply valued during her time at Carolina, both as she cheered on the Heels and played on the club women’s team.

Jack earned a BA with highest distinction in political science and contemporary European studies, with a minor in Russian culture. He was vice president of UNC team handball, a member of the French club, and a volunteer in the Carolina Together Testing Program during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the Department of Political Science, he wrote a senior honors thesis on economic vote choice in the Brexit Referendum of 2016. As a senior, he was named Most Valuable Goalie at Carolina Blue Cup, one of the premier collegiate handball tournaments.

Caitlin earned a BS with distinction in psychology, with minors in medical anthropology and business administration. Within the Department of Psychology, she conducted research at the Carelli Lab studying drug addiction and distress tolerance in animal models and worked as a Gil Intern at N.C. Maternal Mental Health MATTERS. Caitlin served in leadership roles as a clinic coordinator for Student Health Action Coalition (SHAC), co-director of development for the Asian American Center and as director of harm reduction and prevention for Phi Mu. Caitlin also served as a teaching assistant in biology and Honors Carolina courses and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. During her time at Carolina, she volunteered as a doula with Birth Partners at UNC Women’s Hospital, supporting birthing people during labor and delivery.

Krupa earned a BS in information science and a BA in advertising & public relations. At Carolina, she was very involved with Holi Moli as a graphic designer, and eventually served as co-director of the organization. Professionally, she conducted an independent UX research study for Airbnb, and worked as a freelance design consultant for both local and national startups. Outside of her passion for design, Krupa enjoyed training with the UNC club triathlon team and performing as a dancer on Tar Heel Raas.

Alayna earned a BA with highest distinction in both economics and public policy, with a minor in history. At Carolina, she served as the speaker of the 103rd Session of the Undergraduate Senate. In this role, Alayna oversaw student code reform, COVID-19 advocacy, and wrote resolutions in defense of students with disabilities. She was also a member of Phi Alpha Delta, Buckley Public Service Scholars, and the Carolina Union Activities Board. While an undergraduate, Alayna interned at the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; she also volunteered at a children’s home in Eswatini. Academically, she served as a student consultant on signage practices for the Orange County Board of Elections, participated in Honors Carolina, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Kelsey earned a BA in public policy and French, with an entrepreneurship minor. At Carolina, she worked with members of the Chapel Hill community as an advocate at the Community Empowerment Fund and served as a WyldLife leader at Trinity, where she mentored middle school students through a faith-based lens. Kelsey also pursued her passion for education and student engagement through after-school tutoring with HYPE, teaching with Civics in the Triangle, and working as a teacher at Sylvan Learning. This passion led her to volunteer in English classes while studying abroad in France and to conduct research in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools while writing her senior honors thesis on the implementation of restorative practices. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and received the Jacques Hardré Chancellor’s Award for her achievement in French.

Frances earned a BSPH with distinction in environmental health science, with minors in biology and chemistry. Within the Morehead-Cain community, she has loved the opportunity to connect with other scholars and foster wellness through the Courage Over Comfort program, of which she is a co-founder. Additionally, she enjoyed being part of a team that revived the tradition of the Failure Forum for scholars and alumni this year. Frances has served as the vice president and fundraising and volunteer chair of UNC club tennis and competed on the 2022 National Championships team. She has been a member of the Gershon Lab in the Department of Neurology for two and a half years researching targeted therapies for Medulloblastoma. Frances found her love of the wilderness on her NOLS mountaineering course and has continued her pursuits through her Wilderness First Responder training.

Kobe earned a BA in economics and political science with a minor in business administration. At Carolina, he was a founding member and chief executive officer of Chapel Thrill Escapes, the first student-built, student-operated escape room in the country. Kobe was also very involved in Kenan-Flagler’s chapter of Consult Your Community, providing strategic advice to local businesses and nonprofits as a business analyst, engagement manager, and co-president of the club. Additionally, Kobe served as executive director of the Eve Carson Scholarship Selection Committee to help recognize junior-year students who have exhibited transformative growth during their time at Carolina.

Mary Hunter earned a BS with highest distinction in business administration and statistics and analytics, with a minor in philosophy, politics, and economics (PPE). She spent a lot of her time working with nonprofits that provide services to long-term Chapel Hill residents in underserved communities. As a member of the Student Leadership Board of the Marion Cheek Jackson Center and a volunteer for TABLE, she helped adapt the activities of these organizations to continue to provide valuable resources during the pandemic. Academically, she concentrated in international business through the GLOBE business program, particularly studying behavioral finance and cross-cultural attitudes toward business, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. A Tar Heel through and through, she has participated in or attended a game for just about every sport on campus.

Chloe Saine earned a BA with highest distinction in political science and communication studies, with a minor in philosophy, politics, and economics. At Carolina, she was the president of UNC Future Business Leaders of America—Phi Beta Lambda, an executive officer on Moonlight Dance Crew, and a crisis counselor with Crisis Text Line. Academically, Chloe was involved in the Buckley Public Service Scholars Program and Honors Carolina. To wrap up her time at Carolina, Chloe took on an independent study to research the globalization of b-boy and breakdancing in South Korea.

At Carolina, Sam earned a BSBA in business administration and a BA in history with a focus on the United States. He served as the varsity stroke seat, recruitment coordinator, and vice president of UNC Men’s Rowing. Academically, Sam conducted research on climate change mitigation through permaculture and Smart Surfaces, political leaders and dynamics in the Civil War era, and the intersection of race and sport within the U.S. He also developed proficiency in Dutch and competed on the UNC Ethics Bowl Team. To wrap up his time at Carolina, Sam focused on completing his PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification.

Nisarg earned a BA with highest distinction in economics and public policy, with a minor in business administration. At Carolina, he was proud of serving as the co-president of Consult Your Community, co-president of Carolina Creates, and a student advisor to Chancellors Folt and Guskiewicz in the Student Advisory Committee to the Chancellor. Professionally, Nisarg was fortunate to work extensively with an EdTech startup and consult for The UNC Adams School of Dentistry. He also explored his passion for mentoring and teaching as a TA for BUSI 554 H: Consulting Skills and Frameworks, and a co-instructor for “The Mathematics of Probability Games.” Academically, Nisarg was an assured admit to Kenan-Flagler Business School and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He will forever cherish memories made in Chapel Hill, especially partaking in pickleball and spikeball on days with perfect Carolina blue skies.

Sanya will earn a BS with highest distinction in neuroscience and a BA with highest distinction in music with a concentration in vocal performance. At Carolina she was heavily involved in UNC Opera, performing in eight shows as a soprano, and was passionate about creatively reimagining operas to be accessible to modern audiences. If not onstage or buried in a practice room, Sanya worked in the Zylka Lab to develop a public machine-learning tool used to quantify spontaneous pain. She also enjoyed the thrill of volunteering as an EMT through the South Orange Rescue Squad to provide emergency healthcare to people in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro community. During her junior year, Sanya took a gap semester to work in public service. She joined NC DHHS as part of the COVID-19 Vaccine Initiation Taskforce aimed at providing vaccines and vaccine education to North Carolinians.

Sonam earned a BSPH with highest distinction in health policy and management, with minors in chemistry and neuroscience. She was involved with various research projects, including at Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. On campus she had also been an active leader of global health organizations such as the American Mock World Health Organization and a part of the greater Chapel Hill area as a volunteer at the Community Empowerment Fund. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and received the James P. Dixon Award for Excellence in Education. During her time at Carolina, she was a strong advocate for mental health and co-founded Peer2Peer, the first one-on-one peer support organization for graduate and undergraduate students at UNC.

Maria earned a BA with highest distinction in economics and Italian, with a minor in business administration. At Carolina, she served as an undergraduate learning assistant for the economics department, volunteered at the Community Empowerment Fund, and worked for the Entrepreneurship Center. She was also a project lead for The Farmlink Project, a student-run NGO combating food waste. Academically, she used machine-learning techniques to assess the role of foreign aid in Afghanistan, conducted research on Italian immigration to the United States during the 20th century, and examined the effects of COVID-19 on Italy’s GDP. Maria presented a research paper on the impact of sand dredging in Southeast Asia for Oxford University’s Map the System competition. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and received scholarships to study abroad through Semester at Sea and at Bocconi University in Milan.

Kade earned a BA in public policy with minors in urban studies and planning as well as religious studies. He was very involved in the Carolina Athletic Association, serving as the ticketing chair and sports marketing chair before being voted president of CAA as a senior. Kade was very involved in the faith organization Campus Outreach, where he became a campus leader, planning and leading events around campus. He was also a part of the Carolina Union Board of Directors and the Campus President’s Council. While serving for CUBOD, he was a part of the decision to bring a Bojangles to the Student Union.

Sita earned a BSPH with highest distinction in health policy and management, with a minor in anthropology. She was involved in the UNC Partnerships in Aging Program and the Marian Cheek Jackson Center as program coordinator of the NRF and LINK programs and a member of the Jackson Center’s Student Leadership Group. She conducted research on COVID-19’s impact on local food insecurity and flooding in eastern North Carolina through the Socio-Ecological Change Research Lab under Dr. Caela O’Connell. Throughout her time at Carolina, she volunteered at TABLE, coached a local Girls on the Run team, was a senior fellow at the Parr Center for Ethics, and obtained the Gillings on the Ground disaster response certificate. During her junior year, she volunteered at Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge where she learned how to build fences, lay concrete, and use heavy machinery.

Jenny earned a BA with distinction in the social determinants of health, with minors in chemistry and biology. At Carolina, Jenny advocated for healthcare access as vice president of UNC FIMRC (Foundation for Medical Relief of Children) and as a bilingual navigator for UNC Children’s Hospital. She also was part of the Minority Advisor Program, mentoring students from diverse backgrounds through their transition to college. Academically, Jenny was a research assistant for the UNC Infectious Disease Department for the Moderna and Novavax clinical trials and the UNC Endocrinology Department focusing on increased Latinx participation. Her research allowed her to be first author of a narrative review in the Springer journal on food insecurity and cardiometabolic risk. During her senior year, Jenny was president of Tri-Alpha Honor Society to help build and advocate for a first-generation community on campus.

Bri earned a BA in environmental studies as well as public policy. Bri’s interest in environmental policy and advocacy was omnipresent as she was active in SEAC and Sunrise Movement. After conservation apprenticeships sparked an interest, Bri continued to engage with the land, completing a Permaculture Design Course and volunteering with Edible Campus UNC and CCCG. Bri’s work outside continued as an assistant facilitator at Carolina Adventures. An active member of the art community, Bri worked to advance student creativity through art initiatives such as Vintage Blue and the Galore Store CH. Bri was also a proud WXYC DJ, performing at several WXYC events at local music venues such as Cat’s Cradle. As part of the N.C. Fellows Program, Bri engaged with peers on the questions of identity and understanding in leadership. Bri was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Golden Fleece.

Charlie earned a BS in computer science with a minor in statistics and analysis. At Carolina, he volunteered with Refugee Community Partnership where he worked closely with Burmese refugee families in Chapel Hill and helped found and lead the Morehead-Cain Asian scholars affinity group. Charlie also worked closely with a Morehead-Cain Alumnus on his mental health startup and discovered a mentor and lifelong friend. In his downtime, he could be found on the soccer field, on the climbing wall, hosting game night, or at Cat’s Cradle, all with his best friends.

Aneesha earned a BA and BSPH with highest distinction in women and gender studies and health policy and management respectively. At Carolina, they were a founding member of the Pleasure Activists, policy chair of Community Justice, Abolition and Anti-racism, and poet for the Bridge. In the community, they interned at the Orange County Rape Crisis Center as a youth education assistant and at NJJN and Emancipate NC working on ending mass incarceration. Incorporating their core values of freedom, love, and community, Aneesha also became a full-spectrum doula and joined several abolition and mutual aid organizations in the Triangle during their time at Carolina.

Leticia earned a BA with highest distinction in English and comparative literature, with a minor in Entrepreneurship. At Carolina, she conducted qualitative research with UNC Institute for the Environment, was a climate story mentor with UNC’s YES-Resilience Program, and worked as fiction co-editor for Short Story UNC. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and completed a collection of short stories for her senior honors thesis. Her work has been published in Cellar Door and won honorable mention in the N.C. Jacobs/Jones African American Literary Prize. During her time at Carolina, she also led a Bible study for two years, cultivating lifelong friendships.

Ashley earned a BA with highest distinction and highest honors in Global Studies, a BA in a self-designed interdisciplinary major, Intersectionality in Medicine, and a minor in Spanish for the Medical Professions. Ashley was involved in research at the UNC Lineberger Cancer Institute and was published for her work on small-molecule inhibition of the Epstein-Barr Virus. She also worked as a caregiver for Homewatch Caregivers and was involved in the pre-health honors society, Alpha Epsilon Delta. Ashley wrote a senior honors thesis on healthcare access for human trafficking survivors in the United Kingdom, for which she received the Douglas Eyre Award for Excellence in Global Studies, and she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Ashley was an avid racquetball lover at Carolina, and what she lacked in skill she made up for in spirit.

Marlee earned a BS in computer science, as well as a BA in mathematics. She was very involved with Blank Canvas Dance Company and served as both president and secretary of the company during her time at Carolina. Marlee also worked as a teaching assistant for an introductory computer science course, COMP 110, a position she held throughout her time at UNC. During her last two years at Carolina, Marlee thoroughly enjoyed spending time choreographing and teaching dance classes through her dance company.

Graham earned a BA with highest distinction in American studies, with a minor from the Shuford Program in Entrepreneurship. At Carolina he was a very involved member of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, leading a weekly small group and frequently taking part in discipleship. He also was an active member of the Commission on History, Race and a Way Forward for his final two years as names associated with white supremacy began coming off the campus landscape. He often attended Heel Fit classes at the SRC and played sports with his friends, celebrating intramural victories in battleship and spikeball. As a senior, he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation, he will join Intervarsity Christian Fellowship as a campus minister serving on UNC’s campus. Through this position, Graham hopes to love on UNC students, helping to foster a sense of community and belonging while developing in them leadership skills and a renewed hope.

Hunter earned a BA with highest distinction in public policy and logic and law. At Carolina, she was a student leader for International Friends and The Summit College while also being a member of the UNC Institute of Politics. Academically, Hunter focused on education policy by working for the Senate HELP Committee and the American Enterprise Institute with their education policy teams. She was also a Battle Fellow at the North Carolina Study Center, engaging in biblical and theological education. To wrap up her time at Carolina, she engaged in weekly Perspectives courses, studying the biblical, historical, cultural, and strategic aspects of God’s global purpose.
